I've added a list below of Landman Books that I've found. Some of the books have been reviewed on LandmanInsider.com and those reviews are linked. I'll update this page as I find more books that I think landmen might be interested in.
If you have read any of these books, or have read other books you think might be of interest, please tell us about it in the comments below!
Oil and Gas Title Examination
By: George J Morgenthaller
This book has been reviewed here on LandmanInsider.com, and is a great tool for those that have a more advanced level of title examination skill. I recommend it for title agents, landmen, title attorneys, lease analysts, and division order analysts.
Oil and Gas Law In a Nutshell 5th Edition
By: John S. Lowe
A great reference volume that I use on a regular basis. I’d recommend it as a ‘bookshelf book’ for even the experienced landman.
Negotiating Oil and Gas Leases: A Book For Land Owners
By: Mike May P.E.
I haven’t had the opportunity to review this book yet, but I have seen mixed reviews. If you are simply looking for oil and gas lease terms and provisions you might find it useful. The description by the author, Mike May, P.E., is short and sweet:
“If you are a land owner or a mineral rights owner who is seeking information about leasing your land for oil or natural gas drilling, this book is for you.”
Nontechnical Guide to Petroleum Geology, Exploration, Drilling & Production
By: Norman J. Hyne
This textbook is written by Dr. Norman Hyne, Ph.D. He is a certified petroleum geologist and Professor of Petroleum Geology in Continuing Education at the University of Tulsa. He is well known in the field of geology and teaches the Petroleum Short Course. This popular book is just as it is named, a nontechnical guide to upstream operations, and is a great primer and quick reference.
